Event Navigation
Are you aged 14-19 and interested in art, music, fashion, film, dance, poetry, gaming, zines or anything else creative? Do you want to shake up the arts scene in Wigan for you and other young people?
The Wigan and Leigh CEP is looking for young people who are interested in becoming creative activators. You will have your say on what sorts of arts and culture activities you want to happen in the Wigan borough. You will get the chance to express your opinions on how things are run, share your ideas for new programmes, have your voice heard and feed into big decisions.
What is the Wigan and Leigh CEP?
The Wigan and Leigh Cultural Education Partnership (WLCEP for short) is a group of arts and cultural organisations, schools and colleges in the Wigan borough whose shared mission is to ensure every young person in Wigan has access to high quality arts experiences.
Why get involved?
- To learn new skills
- Get access to exclusive opportunities
- Attend inspiring training
- Create opportunities for other young people
- Meet like minded people
- Great experience to add to your CV, attending college, university or for future employers.
- Learn about what creative jobs are out there
- Gain accreditation
- Have fun!
Who are we looking for?
Whoever you are, we would love to hear from you! To ensure a diversity of voices in the Creative Activators project, the WLCEP would particularly like to hear from you if you are not already engaged in arts activities, if you have never done anything like this before or if you have been marginalised/disadvantaged in your life in other ways. For example, this includes young people (14-19yrs) who identify as working class, LGBTQIA+, deaf or disabled, care-experienced, young carers, young people of South, East and South East Asian heritage, African or Caribbean heritage, Gypsy, Roma or Irish Traveller heritage or Latinx heritage.
How long will the project last?
The first phase of the project is 5 weekly online sessions on Mondays at 6-7:30pm
These sessions are about you finding out more about becoming a Creative Activator. Sessions will include creative activities, games, a chance to meet new people and be inspired.
1st March Session 1 – What is culture anyway? What can it do? Is it for me?
8th March Session 2 – Youth Voice and Youth Leadership.
15th March Session 3– What is a Creative Activator?
22nd March – Session 4 – What do YOU want from arts and culture in Wigan?
29th March – Session 5– Next steps: How to get involved. Opportunity to tell us what went well and what we could do better next time.
We would like young people to attend as many of these sessions as they can.
The second phase of creative activators will be shaped by you based on the first set of workshops. The second phases means you can have longer involvement with the group.
How do I take part?
Please register your interest to join the sessions via this Eventbrite link before 28th February.
