Working with Amy Lawrence – Week 6

For this years Blaze Festival, a group of Artists will be working with professional curator Amy Lawrence to produce artwork in preparation for an exhibition in October in Accrington Library.

They will be working together over weekly sessions, and will be blogging about each session as it takes place!

Heres is this weeks blog post, written by Katie Suthers.

This weeks workshop was lead by Laura-Jane Atkinson and was completely different from all the other workshops I’d taken part in before over the weeks. The other workshops where great but this one was a lot more hands on and I really enjoyed that. I felt like I was a child again wrapping tape around the room connecting all the different textures and colors of materials, and when everyone had done the task and I turned round to look at the room, it looked like some mission impossible laser thing that I had to crawl through.

I left feeling filled with creativity and I didn’t hold back at all with any of the activities. I really felt free to express myself and it took me away from all the outside hustle and bustle of my everyday life and I was completely in that room.

It was great to see I can get inspiration from anything that could be around me and that nothing should really be pushed away as a bad idea because you never know when you might be able to use it.

Laura’s presentation was great! The way she works with everyday materials is so creative and inspiring. I especially liked the piped snake she made from different colors of tape. Now I just need to tie all these different workshops together and get creating.
