We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work equally alongside our existing Chair\, Derri Burdon\, to become two Co-Chairs of the board of trustees. \nWe are particularly looking forward to appointing a young person between the ages of 18 and 30 years. They will join five other young people who are existing trustees of Blaze.  \nThe board meets four times a year (often in the evening). DESCRIPTION:A group of local young people\, led by Blaze Arts and Curious Minds\, have been meeting at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston each week to creatively respond to the Harris. As a result of these meetings\, the group\, called the ‘Harris Transformers’\, have created an innovative event and exhibition that celebrates the history and heritage of Preston. The show-stopping finale will be a cinematic light and sound show\, taking place on Sunday 8th July at the Harris and on the Flag Market.  \n  \nMade possible by money raised by National Lottery players\, ‘Love Notes to Preston’ will feature letterpress workshops\, poetry sessions\, and the opportunity to view objects in the Harris’ collection previously unseen to the general public. The Transformers have also been collaborating with Lancashire-based projection artists Illuminos to create a light show which will be projected onto the outside of the Harris building after dark celebrating Preston and its rich heritage.  \n  \nCommenting on the upcoming exhibition\, Matt Wilde\, director of Blaze Arts\, said:  \n“The Transformers programme has been a brilliant opportunity for the young people of Preston to get involved with their local heritage. This exhibition will be an excellent chance for the public to view the work of the next generation of artists and producers in Preston. We are excited to showcase their creativity and cannot wait for the public to see what they have been working on.   \n  \n‘A Love Note to Preston’ will be running from 12:00pm at the Harris Museum on Sunday 8th July and is free of charge. Their pilot project has sharpened their focus to three key themes that they would like to develop\, culminating in an interactive sharing event for the public. \nAs a result of the project\, the Harris Transformers want to: \n\nDevelop skills for young people in heritage\, including sharing heritage\, leadership\, digital and project management skills.\nShare the groups reinterpretation of heritage in creative\, exciting and accessible ways to the public\nChange young people’s attitudes towards the Harris and its heritage through fun and excitable workshop and project opportunities led by Harris Transformers\nLearn and develop skills from curators\, historians and other museum experts\nReinterpret and explain objects and archives in the Harris’ in ways young people are more likely to engage with\nRecord oral histories about Preston’s love for the Harris and it’s heritage that will be showcased in a unique and creative way\n\nThe detail\n\nThe Project Coordinator will work directly with the Project Manager to ensure the project is delivered in line with the overall project plan.\nThe Project Coordinator will be responsible for the day to day administration tasks of the project\, including; data entry\, permission forms\, liaising with participants artists and a youth facilitator\, coordinating venues\, organising refreshments etc.\nThe Project Coordinator will take pastoral care of the young people.\nThe Project Coordinator will also contribute to evaluating the project by contributing their own thoughts and ideas.\nA Youth Facilitator will take primary responsibility for delivering creative and engaging weekly sessions in line with the project plan.\n\nWe welcome expressions of interest from early career arts professionals\, or young leaders with good experience and well-developed skills. It is delivered by Blaze\, a youth-led organisation with a strong track record of work across Lancashire developing the next generation of cultural leaders and artists. \nThe Harris Museum and Art Gallery is being ‘Re-Imagined’ in a way that maintains the institution’s founding vision of edification and inspiration whilst responding to the needs of the people of the city\, and the region\, for future generations. The Harris Transformers will take part in this process\, learning about the museum’s past\, present and future in order to form and share opinions on its redevelopment. As part of their role\, the Harris Transformers will engage the public\, facilitating consultation and developing the Harris’ existing audience. \nThe Role \nFee: £1320 days for approximately 12 half days (VAT/travel inclusive) \nThe Youth Facilitator will be responsible for engaging young people creatively through the Harris Transformers project.
